Family-owned junk removal in Meridian, Idaho

Star, out along the river

Star has grown fast, and most of it is new. Heron River, Star River Ranch, Skybreak, Movado Estates and the other master-planned subdivisions off State Street are full of houses that haven't been lived in long, so the junk tends to be the move-in kind: furniture that didn't fit the new floor plan, packing boxes stacked in the garage, the old grill that got replaced the first summer.

Then there's the other Star. Along the Boise River and out toward The Acres you'll find bigger rural-residential parcels, some with horses or a small hobby farm. Those properties collect a different kind of pile over the years: an old loafing shed, broken fencing, a feed bin with the bottom rusted out, a barn's worth of odds and ends. Getting that out is less about stairs and more about how close we can get to it and whether it has to come apart first.

Star also sits right on the county line. Most of town is in Ada County, but the city limits reach into Canyon County on the west side, and that can change which rules and which landfill apply to your address. If you're not sure which side you're on, give us the address and we'll sort it out before we quote.

Trash day, clean-up weeks and what Star allows

Star's curbside service runs through Republic Services. Anything that won't fit in the cart, like a couch, a mattress or a dishwasher, can be picked up for an extra fee, but it has to be scheduled ahead and sitting outside where the driver can see it on trash day. Appliances need to be empty, and Republic pulls the Freon after pickup. Bags set next to the cart don't get taken unless they're inside a can.

Twice a year the city runs unlimited clean-up weeks, one in early spring and one right after Christmas, when bulky items and non-Freon appliances go out at no charge. If your pile can wait for one of those and you can drag it to the curb yourself, that's a good deal. If it can't wait, or it's buried in the back of a three-car garage, that's where we come in.

Metal is the other easy win. Grills, swing sets, bikes and metal shelving can be dropped off free at the Meridian Transfer Station on West Franklin Road, and fall leaves have a recycling container behind City Hall. Most everything else that leaves Star ends up at the Ada County Landfill up Seamans Gulch Road in the foothills, where tires and Freon appliances cost extra and every load has to be tarped or strapped down.

Tearing down an outbuilding? Star's Building Department issues demolition permits, so check with them before the shed comes apart. On the Ada County side of town, a dumpster sitting in the street or on the sidewalk needs a temporary right-of-way permit from ACHD. And before you light a brush pile, call the Middleton and Star fire districts' burn line. They decide each day whether burning is allowed, and lumber, treated wood and demolition scraps are never on the list.

Star questions

Can I wait for Star's clean-up week instead of hiring someone?+

Sure, if the timing works and you can get everything to the curb. The spring and winter clean-up weeks take bulky items and non-Freon appliances for free. We're the better fit when it can't wait, it's still inside, or it's too heavy to drag out yourself.

Will Republic take my old refrigerator in Star?+

Yes, as a scheduled large-item pickup for an extra fee. It has to be empty and outside on trash day, and they remove the Freon after it's collected. We can also carry it out of the house for you and take it to a recycler that handles the refrigerant.

Can I burn the branches from my lot?+

Maybe, on the right day. The Middleton and Star fire districts check conditions daily, so you have to call their burn line first. Yard waste from your own property can be okay when burning is open. Lumber, treated wood and construction scraps can't be burned at all.

Do you work the acreage properties along the river?+

Yes. Old sheds, fencing, feed bins and the stuff that piles up around a barn are all things we haul. Send a photo, tell us how close we can get, and we'll give you a straight price.

My house is on the Canyon County side. Does that matter?+

It can change which landfill and rules apply, but not whether we'll come. Give us your address when you call and we'll take care of the rest.
