Family-owned junk removal in Meridian, Idaho

Kuna, where town meets open ground

Kuna is two places at once. Inside town, subdivisions like Crimson Point, Patagonia and Indian Creek Ranch have filled in with newer homes on regular-sized lots, a lot of them with young families and garages that fill up fast. Downtown along Main Street is older and smaller, with houses that have been around long enough to have an attic or a back room worth clearing.

Head south or west and it opens up into acreage, hobby farms and horse property, with the Snake River Birds of Prey area beyond that. Those places collect the bigger stuff: a shed that's lost its roof, old corral panels and fencing, a rusted stock tank, a pile of lumber from a project that never got finished. Hauling that is mostly about access, how far out in the field it sits, and whether it needs cutting down before it'll load.

Plenty of Kuna piles sit somewhere in between those two: the trampoline the kids outgrew, a hot tub on the back patio, a garage that's been the overflow room since moving day. Whatever it is, you'll get a price before anything is loaded.

J&M, the landfill and Kuna's burn rules

Kuna's garbage isn't Republic Services. It's J&M Sanitation, a family-owned hauler based right in Kuna, known for running Idaho's first all-electric garbage truck. Under county rules, loose or bagged trash set outside the cart won't be collected, so anything extra has to be scheduled with J&M. Large items like a couch or a mattress can be picked up for a per-item fee.

The catch is refrigerants. J&M won't take refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers or water coolers, because the Freon has to be removed by a certified professional first. Tires and hazardous waste are out too. So an old garage fridge in Kuna usually needs another route. We'll carry it out and take it to a recycler that handles the refrigerant properly.

J&M also runs a curbside clean-up in the spring, and Ada County brings its mobile hazardous waste collection to Kuna City Park at a few points during the year. For everything else, the Ada County Landfill is clear across the county off Seamans Gulch Road, and the Meridian Transfer Station on West Franklin is the closer drop-off for most loads.

Burning is common out here, and it has rules. Kuna Rural Fire District doesn't require a permit, but you can only burn weeds and dry vegetation with small branches, never lumber, roofing, garbage or tires, and never on days when the valley's air quality is poor. Outside city limits the Idaho Department of Lands wants a burn permit during fire season, and burning on BLM land is never allowed. For a demolition, Kuna's Building Department has its own permit application, and a dumpster in the street needs ACHD's right-of-way permit.

Kuna questions

Will J&M Sanitation pick up my old refrigerator?+

No. J&M doesn't take fridges, freezers, AC units, dehumidifiers or water coolers because of the Freon. We can haul it out and take it to a recycler that handles refrigerant.

Can I just set extra bags next to my trash cart?+

Not in Kuna. Loose or bagged trash outside the cart won't be collected. You'd need to schedule an extra pickup with J&M, wait for the spring clean-up, or have it hauled.

Can I burn the old fence boards on my property?+

No. Kuna Rural Fire District doesn't allow burning lumber, and treated fence boards are out for sure. Weeds and small dry branches are fine on good air days. The boards need to be hauled.

Do you go out to the acreage south of town?+

Yes. Sheds, fencing, corral panels and old farm junk are all fair game. Tell us how close we can get, send a photo, and we'll give you a straight price.

Is there a cheaper option for big items in Kuna?+

J&M's spring curbside clean-up is the one to watch for. Outside that, large items are a scheduled per-item pickup with J&M, or a trip to the landfill yourself. We're here for the jobs that don't fit either.
